BE CAREFUL WITH THE TAXI DRIVERS! PLEASE READ THIS NOTE!
While San Jose is one of the safest cities in Central America, Aldea Hostel would like to remind you that tourists are sometimes the victims of predatory taxi drivers. Some of our guests have had problems with dramatic fare overcharges and dishonest drivers who pretend our hostel is full and take you somewhere else. Just like how you would protect your valuables in a crowded market, you should protect your wallet from scammer taxi drivers. Always negotiate your fare before you get into the taxi, or insist on using the taxi driver's meter. Remember official taxis are red and have a meter in them.
And most importantly do not forget that Aldea Hostel is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
HOW TO GET TO ALDEA FROM THE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT JUAN SANTAMARIA:
We are located at Av 2, San José, Costa Rica across the street from Sala Garbo (if you tell a taxi driver that at the airport he will know) - if you take a taxi it should cost $25 or approx 12500 colones. Someone is at the reception at all times, just ring the bell to be let in. If you would like to take the bus, it is in front of the airport and it is called TUASA. It costs $1 or 555 colones. After about 30 minutes on it you will be in San Jose, you will pass a big park called Sabana, and then will be on the main street called Paseo Colon (route 2 on a map). When you see McDonald´s pull the cord above the window to let the bus driver know that you want to get off. The bus should stop directly in front of Pizza Hut. If the bus goes past Pizza Hut, walk back to pizza hut. Standing at the intersection with Pizza Hut on your left (9oclock or 10oclock on a clock) turn right down Av 2. Walk one block and we are located on the right hand corner.
